Two high-performance incubators from Japan were donated to the Cantacuzino maternity ward in Bucharest. The investment, worth 90,300 lei, represents 20% of the net amount collected following the campaign "Transform 2% of income tax into 100% life for children", carried out in 2011 by the Save the Children Romania Organization.
The supply of the devices to the Cantacuzino maternity ward was a priority for Save the Children Romania, as approximately 13-14% of the 2500 children cared for annually in this maternity ward are premature.
“Prematurity occurs in any newborn with a gestational age of less than 37 weeks. Our unit cares for children with a gestational age of more than 24 weeks. The rate of prematurity is higher in Cantacuzino hospital because, being a level 3 maternity ward, it also cares for newborns who come by transfer from other hospitals - especially from Calarasi county ”, pointed out Dr. Adrian Craciun, head of the neonatology section of Cantacuzino Maternity.
This charitable action is only the first step of the Save the Children Romania Association's commitment to preventing infant mortality.
In the future, the Association intends to equip the motherhood in Adjud, Vrancea county and carry out several programs of parental education, including: prevention of pregnancy at early age, care of the newborns and adequate nutrition of the mother and child.
